Surrounded by 3 mountains, Achterbergh lies nestled in a beautiful valley just 2km
from Chancliff, Krugersdorp. Vast green lawns stretch into the distance, while the
river and dams on the premises attract a variety of birds.
The centre is a stone's throw away from attractions like Maropeng - "The Cradle of
Humankind," Sterkfontein Caves, the Krugersdorp Lion Park and Krugersdorp Wildlife
Park. Major shopping malls in the vicinity include Key West, Clearwater and Westgate,
while Lanseria Airport provides a convenient gateway for those coming from far away.
The late Rev van Achterbergh gave this piece of land to the NG kerk (Dutch Reformed
Church) more than 50 years ago. The first campers used tents. Later on sleeping
units and a hall was erected. During the last six years Achterbergh was upgraded,
by the Highveld Synod to a three star multi-functional centre! The campsites are
well maintained. The halls may serve a variety of purposes with different arrangements.
A staff of 16 members ensure that you spend time in a homely atmosphere, eat home
made meals, sleep in clean and well kept facilities and enjoy the pools, kloof and
quiet of nature.
